Debussy, poet of the avant-garde

The 24 Preludes have, with their modernity and innova!ve style, opened the way forward for composers of the 20th and 21st centuries. Written between 1909 and 1913, the piano Preludes express the troubled emtional atmosphere prevalent in Europe before the First World War. Working at the peak of his powers, Debussy succeeded in crea!ng a unique climate of transcendent poe!c inspira!on in each of the miniature works.
The pianist Hugues Leclère plans to illuminate this musical heritage of Debussy's two books of Preludes by juxtaposing
them with 22 modern compositions; works mainly by the foremost French composers, who represent the most important contemporary trends, but also by the American James Wintle, and the young British star, Thomas Adès.
Each book of 12 Preludes interwoven with modern worksmakes up a programme latng 1 hour and 20 minutes without interval.
